Springtime Volunteer Get Together

Amy, Fiona and the Shop Committee organised a wonderful Spring Volunteer Social Event on Friday 19 April. A great chance to get together for a catch up, meet new volunteers and enjoy some delicious food and drink. It was also a lovely opportunity to thank all our Volunteers in person, as well as their partners and families, of course!

Happy Christmas Everyone!

Amy and Fiona, our lovely Christmas elves, would like to take a moment to wish all of our customers, volunteers, shop committee members and our suppliers a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Christmas Raffle Winner!

Congratulations to Mark who was the lucky winner of a gorgeous Village Shop Hamper in our Christmas raffle.

Widecombe Charity Christmas Tree Competition

We’ve entered a decorated Christmas tree in the Widecombe Christmas Tree Festival. This year the theme is animals.
Go and have a look now until Sun 17th December in Widecombe church!
Entry is free and donations are going to the charity Aspirations.

And guess what? We won a rosette!

Tennis Club Tournament Donation

Our grateful thanks to the members of the Ilsington and Bickington Tennis Club who ran a tennis club tournament this year which raised £207 for the Village Shop. We have put the donation towards a new printer.

Many thanks to all the tennis players for supporting us.

Late Night Shopping Event

A big thank you to all our amazing volunteers who baked, sold raffle tickets, helped on the shop stall, worked in the shop, helped run the refreshments, donated raffle prizes, helped set up, helped tidy up and anything else I’ve forgotten!!
And a big thank you to the raffle sponsors – Ilsington country house hotel, the Carpenters Arms, Lydford Gorge alpacas, and Nordman Firs. And everyone else who donated prizes!
And finally another huge thank you to everyone who came to the community get together and supported the event – it was such a fun festive day.

Our Beautiful Christmas Tree

You know that Christmas is on its way when the shop has a beautiful Christmas tree outside.
Our thanks to Alan Hobbs and Alan Coles for being Santa’s helpers this year.

Save The Date! Dec 1 Late Night Shopping 3.30 – 7pm

This year we are joining with the Ilsington Village Hall for our late night shopping and pre-Christmas Get Together!

Put the date in your diary! Please note that the choir is singing at 5.30pm and that the Christmas Wreath Making Class is now from 3pm to 5pm.

See you all on the 1st December!

Happy Halloween!

Some of you may have noticed something spooky at the Village Shop today – and we don’t mean our shop manager dressed as a splendid witch!

Check out Fiona’s amazing carved pumpkin with very sharp teeth! And while you are here, remember to stock up on lots of treats for all the Halloween visits this evening.

Everyone at the Shop wishes you a Spooktacular Halloween!

Volunteer Event & Get Together

It was decided that because of the increase in new volunteers over the last few months that it would be great to have a social event so that everyone could meet up and enjoy some delicious food and some great conversation. It was also a chance for volunteers to meet some members of the committee too.

The shop provided wine, Pimms, cider, soft drinks, teas and coffees. And everyone who came along brought a sharing plate of either savoury or sweet food.

The afternoon was a great success! Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the feast on display and to those who helped with setting up and clearing up. A particularly big thank you to Fiona who organised it all. We noticed how much you all enjoyed the Pimms and local gins! But, it’s true, many of you
stuck to tea to go with all the lovely cakes and savoury items on offer.

Becoming a volunteer at the Village Shop is the best way to meet new friends and have fun. There will be many more social events like this one in the coming months so why not come along and join the family?
